Similkameen

The Similkameen Community Wildfire Preparedness Roundtable was formed in January 2024 to support the effective coordination and communication of roles among the organizations responsible for different aspects of wildfire preparedness in Princeton and surrounding areas.

The Roundtable is addressing a range of issues that assist with implementation of community wildfire resiliency and other types of wildfire risk reduction plans.

The work of community wildfire roundtables includes a focus on such topics as:

  • FireSmart education
  • Timber harvesting opportunities
  • Fuel management
  • Resources and capacity
  • First Nations traditional burning

Roundtable Membership

The Roundtable is composed of representatives of organizations involved in all aspects of wildfire preparedness and risk reduction in the area. Participants are expected to include:

  • Lower Similkameen Indian Band
  • Ministry of Forests
  • BC Wildfire Service
  • Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness
  • Ministry of Water Land and Resource Stewardship
  • Volunteer fire departments
  • Neighbourhood FireSmart committees
  • Weyerhaeuser

  • BC Timber Sales
  • Forest tenure holders (community forest, woodlot licensees, major licensees, BCTS
