Plug In BC

In BC, over 90% of electricity generated is clean energy. This makes electric vehicles a good option for BC drivers who want to cut greenhouse gas and other harmful emissions by driving cleaner and greener.

Plug In BC, a program of the Fraser Basin Council, supports a wider understanding and uptake of plug-in electric vehicles and charging — along with new opportunities for electrification. The program owes its success of over a decade to the collaboration of government, industry, community groups and institutions. Together, we are accelerating the uptake of electric vehicles in BC.

Here’s a quick look. Head to the Plug In BC website for details on the full range of services and incentives.

CleanBC Go Electric Fleet Charging

The CleanBC Go Electric Fleet Charging program aims to support fleets in their transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) by providing training, advisory services and financial support.

Through the program, BC fleets can access rebates for ZEV readiness assessments, infrastructure assessments and upgrades as well as the purchase and installation of charging infrastructure to support the future of their fleets.

The program is open to BC registered companies, non-profit organizations and public entities. Applicants must be pre-approved to receive a rebate. Details on the Plug In BC site!

CleanBC Go Electric Rebates

This CleanBC Go Electric Rebates program offers rebates on electric motorcycles, low-speed vehicles, electric cargo bicycles (cargo bikes), utility vehicles, airport and port specialty vehicles, and on a variety of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The vehicle rebate enables a purchaser or lessee of an eligible specialty-use vehicle to receive a post-purchase rebate. Learn more!

CleanBC Go Electric Medium- and Heavy-Duty Public Charger Program

The CleanBC Go Electric Medium- and Heavy-Duty Public Charger Program is part of the CleanBC Go Electric Program. It is intended to increase the number of public Direct Current Fast Charger (DCFC) stations throughout BC to support the growing need for public charging for medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) electric vehicles.

The program aims to fund DCFCs in locations with high MHD vehicle utilization to support the transition of this industry to zero-emission vehicles.

The funding call for this program opened on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Applicants have until November 29, 2024 to complete their application. Applicants must be pre-approved to receive a rebate. Learn more and apply at Plug In BC!

CleanBC Go Electric Public Charger Program

The CleanBC Go Electric Public Charger Program — part of the  CleanBC Go Electric Program — is intended to increase the number of public Direct Current Fast Charger (DCFC) stations throughout British Columbia to support the growing number of light-duty zero-emission vehicles on the road.

While there is no current call for applications under this program, please check back here and on the Plug in BC website for possible future funding opportunities.

For recent funding rounds, a program priority has been to fill current gaps in B.C.’s public DCFC network, such as in Indigenous communities, rural and northern areas, and those city centres experiencing long line-ups or wait times for DCFCs due to high EV uptake.

EV Advisor Service for Stratas and Workplaces

Plug In BC’s Electric Vehicle Advisors offer free advice to employers, staff, residents and strata councils on charging incentives, charging installation processes, user guidelines within stratas and workplaces, and the benefits of acquiring chargers. Their services can include lunch & learn sessions, presentations at AGMs/SGMs, or webinars for decision makers.

Note that detached houses, duplexes, rowhouses and townhouse units with individual private parking areas are not eligible for the service. Learn more on the Plug In BC site!

Emotive — The Electric Vehicle Experience

Each year the Emotive program connects BC drivers with electric vehicles. From 2023-2024, Emotive supported or organized over 80 events, from large auto shows to small community gatherings, and conducted nearly 5,000 educational electric vehicle test-drives.  A great way to get behind the wheel and feel the power of EVs for the first time!

The summer and fall season has turned out to be just as exciting. Thank you to our volunteers, partner organizations, communities and EV associations for all your excellent work.

#Live Electric Stories!

Here’s a recent #LiveElectric story that features FBC’s Michael Stanyer of the Plug In BC program. Michael shares his September 2024 trip in a Hyundai IONIC 6 from Burnaby to Dawson Creek and back. It’s the kind of long distance EV travel that’s now doable and affordable in BC!
