Current Chair

Janet Austin
Janet Austin became the sixth Chair of the Fraser Basin Council in March 2025. She joined FBC after serving seven years as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and having resumed life as a private citizen. She brings to FBC a wealth of community leadership service, including 15 years as Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA Metro Vancouver, one of the province’s largest and most diversified non-profit organizations.

Colin Hansen
Served as Chair of the Fraser Basin Council from 2014 to 2025
Colin Hansen is the fifth Chairperson of the Fraser Basin Council Board of Directors. He has served since April 2014 following a distinguished career in public service.

Dr. Charles Jago CM, OBC
Served as Chair of the Fraser Basin Council from 2006 to 2014
Charles Jago was President of the University of Northern BC for 11 years and was instrumental in creation of the UNBC medical program. Among his many other commitments, he served as a director of Northern Health.

Patrick Reid
Served as Chair of the Council from 2003 to 2006
Patrick Reid was the former Commissioner-General of Expo 86 and a former Chair of the Rick Hansen Foundation.

Dr. Jack Blaney
Served as Chair of the Council from 2001 to 2003
A former President of Simon Fraser University, Jack Blaney completed his service with the Fraser Basin Council in 2003. He went on to chair the Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.

Iona Campagnolo
Served as founding Chair, from 1997 to 2001
Iona Campagnolo, following a distinguished career of public service, became the founding Chair of the Fraser Basin Council in 1997. She served until her appointment as British Columbia’s first woman Lieutenant-Governor in 2001.
